The Rocky Road to Dublin: Dublin 2019 promotional video

“One, two, three, four, five!

Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road.

All the way to Dublin’, whack-fol-la-de-da”

The Dublin 2019 Worldcon Bid is  absolutely delighted to present their first promotional video!

The Rocky Road to Dublin is a jaunty Irish folk song about an adventurous young swain who sets his sights on getting to the fine city of Dublin. On the way he gets into all sorts of scrapes but his indomitable spirit perseveres and he eventually makes it, all the while singing the praises of ‘Erin’s Isle’. It’s a great piece of music and very much in keeping with our own determination to bring a Worldcon to Ireland for the first time in 2019.

Mark Slater, the person behind Loncon 3’s promotional videos, has edited the video. He used photographs and film highlighting Ireland and the city of Dublin as a tourist destination, especially the River Liffey along whose banks lies our venue – the CCD (Conference Centre Dublin).

As well as the sights of Dublin and Ireland, you can also get a peek at what the Dublin 2019 team have been up to in the last year. From tours of the CCD to events at conventions around the world, our greenies have been getting everywhere. On St Patrick’s Day we encouraged everyone to go green, and they’ve been doing so ever since! There’s a bit of a rogue’s gallery in the video, and we hope you recognise a few faces. We’ve got fans old and new getting behind the Dublin Bid and helping us along the way, and our team works strongly together, with real purpose behind their mission. We’re a welcoming bunch, and meeting our wonderful supporters and encouraging people to support Dublin 2019 is one of our favourite things to do.

We believe Mark’s amazing really does celebrate the ethos and fun of our Bid so far.
