Dublin 2019 Hotels

Our hotel block has now closed. If you have already made a hotel reservation through Conference Partners for the Worldcon, you should have an account with them. If you have any problems with your existing reservation, contact facilities@dublin2019.com, and we’ll help solve it.

We are keeping our hotel pages online as some of them will probably still have rooms to rent; the prices and conditions will be different as our block has closed and you’ll be dealing with hotels directly if you still need a room.

If you are looking to reserve a hotel room, check Trivago or deal with the hotel directly; each hotel page has a link and a phone number.

If you’d prefer a B&B, check B&B Ireland. For apartments or houses, check VRBO/Homeaway.

Geographic Groupings

We have divided our hotels into three groups:

• Local Hotels – There are no hotels directly connected to the CCD, but there are six that are within a 10-minute (1 kilometre) walk, with distances varying between 280 and 900 metres. In two cases, you can take public transport which may take as long as walking, but which reduce the walking distance to under 300 metres. The hotels we are contracted with, in order of distance from the CCD:
  • The Spencer Hotel
  • Hilton Garden Inn Custom House
  • Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane
  • The Gibson Hotel; note that the Gibson is within a block of Point Square, Dublin 2019’s Creative Hub for the Art Show and art/comics-related programme.
  • Maldron Hotel Pearse Street
• Easy Access – Not everyone will be able to get into our “Local” hotels. But Dublin is a small city with great public transport links. So, our next group of hotels are those where, after a short walk (generally under 500 metres), you can use public transport that will take you to a bus stop close to the front of the CCD or to the Luas (Light Rail) Spencer Dock stop just at the back of the CCD. We currently have contracts with ten hotels in this category and hope to sign with up to four more. The hotels we are contracted with, in order of distance from the CCD:

  • Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham Hotel Dublin
  • Academy Plaza Hotel
  • Jurys Inn Parnell Street
  • Jurys Inn Christchurch
  • The Radisson Blu Royal
  • Camden Court Hotel
• Other Hotels – Finally, we have hotels that do not fall into either of the above categories, but which we have included as they are offering good rates. These hotels are therefore either more than a kilometre walk from the CCD, or require you to travel on two public transport links – that will increase your average (if not absolute) travel time. The hotels we are contracted with, in order of distance from the CCD:

Note that the Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin will not be open in time for Worldcon.

Room Types

The language used to describe accommodation rooms in Europe can be confusing to someone from North America, as we use the same words to mean different things. As the saying goes two peoples separated by a common language. So here is a brief overview

Room types in Europe are defined by two factors – the number of people staying in the room and the number of beds.

A room described as a “Single” – is a room meant for occupancy by one person. In most cases these will be in a European standard Double bed (54″ wide). But in some cases this might be in a Single bed (30 to 36″ wide). It is not always obvious which hotel offer which – but a good indication will be where the hotel offers a separate Room Only rate for a “Single” room that is significantly different from the Room Only rate for a “Double” room, or where the difference for Bed & Breakfast rates are significantly more than 15 EUR.

A room described as a “Double” – is a room meant for occupancy by two people sharing a single bed. In most cases this will be a European standard Double bed (54″ wide).

A room described as a “Twin” – is a room meant for occupancy by two people each sleeping in their own bed. However this will invariably be a Single bed, and frequently a small Single just 30″ wide.

A room described as a “Triple” – is a room meant for occupancy by three people, with two of these sharing a Double bed (54″ wide) and the third a Single Bed (30″ – 36″ wide).

We do offer accommodations that will sleep more than 3 people – but these are generally in our managed apartments – where we have a number of two room apartments.

In the Key Collection apartments each room will contain a standard European Double bed (54″ wide). However in the StayCity apartments each room contains two small single beds (30″ wide) that can be joined together to make one European King bed (60″ wide). You can specify which in the special requirements field of the booking – the default is the room comes in the Double configuration.

The only alternative will be in our Hostel accommodation, where rather than booking a single bed you can book a “Quad” room that will sleep four people in four small single beds (30″ wide). But we only have these rooms for our Core Nights (Thu-Sun nights).
