It’s time for another Irish Fiction Friday, where we share some of the best SFF Ireland has to offer, showcasing the background that a bid for Worldcon in Dublin is built on. This week, we’re featuring a children’s book, Darkmouth by Shane Hegarty.
Children’s fiction is where the imagination can really go wild, and Darkmouth is an excellent example of that. Combining prose and vivid illustrations, it’s funny and filled with mythic adventure.
Legends (also known as terrifying, human-eating monsters) have invaded the town of Darkmouth and aim to conquer the world.
But don’t panic! The last remaining Legend Hunter – Finn – will protect us.
Finn: twelve-years-old, loves animals, not a natural fighter, but tries really, really hard, and we all know good intentions are the best weapons against a hungry Minotaur, right?
On second thoughts, panic.
