Irish Fiction Friday: The Swan River Press Reader

Over at the Swan River Press, Brian Showers has been an enthusiastic supporter of Irish Fiction Friday, and was one of the people who took an enthusiastic part in our St Patrick’s Day celebrations online, sharing details about famous Irish SF/F/H authors. Swan River Press specialises in Irish Horror and Weird Fiction writing, and has recently republished Mervyn Wall’s The Unfortunate Fursey and The Return of Fursey, about the misadventures of a Monk in Dark Ages Ireland. The first book was called “wildly fantastic, intensely satirical, and wickedly comic” by the Irish Times and described by critic E.F. Bleiler as a “landmark book in the history of fantasy”. We’ve posted the beautiful covers below, and you can also read more about the Press itself, as well as read more about Irish fantasy on their blog.

Today’s IFF is the The Swan River Press Reader, which they have kindly allowed us to use, and which contains ten free extracts from their catalogue, showcasing some of the best Irish fiction authors from recent years and past. We really hope you enjoy this, and thank-you Brian!
